RollEase Water Carrier

Rethinking how water moves.

Proposed concept · Before prototyping and testing

RollEase is a proposed rolling jerrycan-style water carrier. WEEA aims to explore a design that considers usability, durability, manoeuvrability and the everyday realities of people who transport water.

The Challenge and Intended Users

Moving water is part of everyday life for many households and communities. A useful design begins with understanding the people, routes, handling needs and practical conditions involved.

RollEase is an invitation to explore another approach to moving water with communities, designers, engineers and manufacturing partners.

A Design Direction to Explore

The illustrations explore a reservoir, pulling frame and rolling components. Their shapes and relationships are illustrative design ideas for discussion, engineering review and refinement.

Materials, dimensions, capacity and final construction would be determined through design work and testing.

  • Understand handling and manoeuvrability needs
  • Explore durability and maintenance priorities
  • Review filling, movement and practical everyday use
  • Consider local production and repair pathways

Prototype Development and Testing

A potential development process would move from concept review to a prototype, followed by appropriate testing and iteration. Decisions about performance, suitability and manufacture would depend on that work.

Community pilots would need clear responsibilities, participant support, feedback and evaluation before considering wider use.

A Proposed Development Pathway

RollEase proposed pathway from concept exploration and design review to prototype development, testing, a community pilot, and evaluation and manufacturing review.

  1. Concept exploration

Understand everyday water-transport needs and priorities with communities and potential partners.

  2. Design review

Explore handling, durability and manoeuvrability with qualified design and technical partners.

  3. Prototype development

Develop a prototype for review once a design and partnership approach are agreed.

  4. Testing and iteration

Assess the prototype and refine the design before considering product availability.

  5. Community pilot

Consider an appropriately supported pilot, participant feedback and practical-use evaluation.

  6. Evaluation and manufacturing review

Review findings, possible design changes and potential manufacturing pathways.

Manufacturing and Technical Partnerships

WEEA welcomes discussion with design, engineering, manufacturing, research and implementation partners interested in shaping the concept and assessing its feasibility.
